Wright & Schulte LLC Offer Summer Safety Tips
This summer, Wright & Schulte LLC is offering you Summer Safety Tips to help you keep your friends and loved ones safe. Whether you are planning a barbeque, taking the kids to a local park or playground, or simply enjoying your own backyard, it only takes a second for an enjoyable event to turn bad.
From Barbecuing in Ohio backyards to playing in Ohio parks everyone will be outside enjoying the summer weather. This means that accidents such as burns and falls are more highly likely to occur. Wright & Schulte LLC would like to provide some Summer Safety Tips to help all Ohioans to be safe during this summer season.
Barbecue Summer Safety Tips
According to the U.S. Fire Administration, the fire department responds to about 6,500 grill fires, which result in nearly $30 million in property damage. Keep your family and your property safe this summer by following these summer safety tips. Keep your grill at least 10 feet from your home, trees, and bushes. Keep a fire extinguisher handy, just in case. Before lighting your gas grill for the first time, check the gas hose for holes or cracks and replace if needed. Check your spark igniter to ensure that it works and has enough spark to burn the propane, if not, replace it. Never leave a hot grill unsupervised and keep children far away. Charcoal grills make food taste great, however they produce an odorless, colorless gas called carbon monoxide (CO) that kills nearly 17 people each year from CO poisoning. Never use a charcoal grill indoors, and make sure when you are camping that your grill is far enough away from your tent or camper that the fumes do not enter those areas. Be sure to pour water on your coals when you finished cooking so children and adults are not accidently burned by hot coals. (http://www.body-borneman.com/images/pdf/refsheetsbbqgrills.pdf)
Park and Playground Summer Safety Tips
While parks and playgrounds are a favorite venue to nearly all children, they can pose a certain danger when children are left unsupervised. Follow these Summer Safety Tips to help avoid injury in Ohio parks and playgrounds. Whether your children are playing at a home playground or a public playground, inspect the equipment to make sure all parts are in good shape, that bolts are not sticking out, and that S-hooks are enclosed. Hard plastic and metal surfaces get hot in the sun and can burn young children, so test these surfaces before your kids start playing. Make sure equipment is properly anchored to the ground, and that no ropes, leashes, or strings are tied to the equipment. Strangulation is one of the most common causes of playground deaths for children. (http://www.kchdwv.org/Home/Summer-Safety-2012.aspx)
