Ohio Tractor Trailer Accident Resulted In The Arrest Of A Truck Driver For DUI

More and More Ohio Truck Drivers have been involved in Ohio Tractor Trailer Accidents And Unfortunately Some Have Acceded The Commercial Drinking Limit.

WHIO News in Dayton reported that an Ohio truck driver fled the scene of a 6 to 8 car pileup after swerving and hitting several vehicles with the tractor trailer he was driving. According to witness reports, the truck driver was seen tossing beer bottles just before fleeing the scene after the Ohio crash. The driver was later indicted by a Shelby County grand jury for two felony accounts including vehicular assault and fleeing the scene of the accident. According to the Ohio accident report, several drivers involved in the pileup sustained minor injuries. The driver is currently being held at the Shelby County Jail. According to the Ohio Highway Patrol, drivers impaired by alcohol accounted for 35 percent of all deaths on Ohio roads this year. This increase in fatalities and alcohol-related deaths has prompted the Ohio State Highway Patrol to increase OVI checkpoints. The first month the police implemented the checkpoints, Ohio police arrested 227 Ohio drivers for operating a vehicle intoxicated, WFMJ News reports. [

In Ohio state law, the commercial drinking limit is .04%. If the truck driver is given a OVI charge in addition to the two felony charges and this is only his first OVI offence, he will face jail time between three days and six months, face license suspension for six months to three years, and have to pay a fine between $250 and $1,000. Commercial drivers face serious penalties for operating a vehicle intoxicated. According to Driving Laws.org, as little as one alcoholic beverage can raise a person’s blood alcohol level beyond the legal limit for commercial tractor trailer drivers.

The Ohio Highway Patrol reported to WFMJ News that Ohio is seeing more fatalities and injuries on Ohio roadways in 2014 than in previous years. Medina County had the largest increase in fatalities of 13 additional fatalities in 2014. In Columbiana County, 10 more people have died in 2014 over 2013. In November, Ohio traffic fatalities reached 111, which is a 52 percent increase over the previous year.

Data from the Ohio Department of Public Safety shows that in 2013, 9,431 Ohio tractor trailers accidents occured on Ohio roadways. Of those accidents, 1,859 resulted in injuries and 107 resulted in fatalities. In 2014, Ohio Highway Patrol has stopped 23,033 Ohio drivers for suspected OVI charges. This is an extremely high number of Ohio residents suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. According to the Ohio Department of Public Safety, the best way to avoid alcohol-related accidents, injuries, and fatalities is to never drink and drive. This is the only way to prevent the 100-plus alcohol-related deaths Ohio sees every year and will reduce accidents and injuries by the thousands.
