The personal injury attorneys at Wright & Schulte LLC note a new urgent air bag recall from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued today, October 21, 2014, involves over 4.7 million vehicles from several automotive companies. According to the NHTSA, these vehicles have defective airbags that could potentially cause serious injury or death. The NHTSA states that four deaths and multiple injuries have already been linked to the faulty airbags and advises that vehicle owners address the issue as soon as possible.[nhtsa.gov/About+NHTSA/Press+Releases/Vehicle-owners-with-defective-airbags-urged-to-take-immediate-action, October 21, 2014]

Wright & Schulte LLC has further learned through a WSBTV report, the urgency of the recall reached fervent heights when the death of a Florida woman was linked with the faulty air bags. The woman suffered severe injuries from shrapnel from the exploding air bags that police investigators suspect were a contributing cause in her death. According to the Washington Post, the recalled vehicles have airbags with a faulty inflator mechanism, which sprayed metal fragments throughout the vehicle cabin. The NHTSA is urging drivers of the recalled vehicles to take their vehicles in right away to avoid potential injury and death. The Washington Posts reports that it is not only American cars affected by the recall. The news outlet reported that worldwide, a total of over 12 million vehicles were affected by the recall. Executive director of the nonprofit Center for Auto Safety, Clarence Ditlow, told WSB news in George that he estimates that up to 25 million cars in the United States are equipped with the dangerous air bags. If this is the case, this recall may become the largest single vehicle recall in history.
