Jury Awards $570K In Wrongful Death Lawsuit Finding Doctor Negligent By Failing To Diagnose Fatal Blood Clot
A jury in a wrongful death lawsuit has awarded over $570,000 in damages to the family of a woman who died due to hemorrhagic shock. The jury found the woman’s doctor failed to diagnose a hematoma (a blood clot outside the blood vessels), which caused her to go into hemorrhagic shock.
The negligence lawsuit claims that the woman visited her doctors claiming severe and nearly unbearable pain in June of 2012. However, her doctors allegedly refused to order diagnostic tests that would have led to the discovery of her internal bleeding and saved her life. the [eagle.com/news/nation/carroll-county-jury-awards-k-in-wrongful-death-lawsuit/article_52d12362-3632-5416-be66-84099811835f.html]
The jury awarded the woman’s family with $38,000 for medical expenses, $8,900 to cover the cost of funeral expenses, and $125,000 in damages for pain and suffering. The jury is also requiring the defense to cover all legal fees and miscellaneous expenses. The defense did not respond to the question of whether they intended to file an appeal against the verdict.
Symptoms of a hematoma generally include headaches, strange aches and pains only on one side of the body, difficulty speaking, weakness, back pain, back pain, and flank pain. The symptoms can vary based on the location of the hematoma. While trauma generally causes a hematoma, they can also randomly appear with no identifiable factor or cause.
